SCAR’s Four Security-Unravelling Dimensions (SCAR4SUD)

Call

SCAR4SUD is a winning project belonging to Spoke 7, a partnership of several Italian universities within the SERICS foundation. SCAR4SUD is a project responding to the SCAR research call, which aims at securing new technologies related to connected and autonomous cars.

Summary

The SCAR4SUD project defines a comprehensive strategy to unravel four dimensions to enable SCAR, hence address the current security and privacy challenges in the automotive sector. Dimension 1 “Security and Privacy Reference Framework for Automotive” grounds the domain on solid, up-to-date guidelines, principles, and best practices. Dimension 2 “Security and Privacy Reference Architecture for Automotive” establishes a blueprint, including technological choices, to practically guide organisations in developing systems for automotive security and privacy. Dimension 3 “Automotive Data Protection Framework” addresses the specificities of collection, storage, processing and sharing of data within vehicles. Dimension 4 “Multi-disciplinarity in Automotive” adds a holistic, user-and-law centric stance exceeding sheer technology and, at the same time, fortifying it.

Objectives

SCAR4SUD achieves its goals by integrating advanced engineering and threat modeling methodologies, also including evolving threats. With a user-centric focus, the project elevates awareness, actively safeguards data, and prevents unauthorised access. The design of a kill chain adds a proactive layer, and the multi-layered approach ensures compliance of the project outputs with GDPR. Crowd-sourced insights and legal requirements enrich the project's impact

The main aim of SCAR4SUD is reached through 4 objectives:

1 - Security and privacy reference framework for automotive

Integrating multi-layered security and privacy engineering practices

2 - Security and privacy reference architecture for automotive

Defending by multi-layer measures, including hardware, software, and communication protocols

3 - Automotive data protection framework

Securing and protecting personal data in automotive

4 - Multi-disciplinarity in automotive

Integrating multi-disciplinary approaches towards security and privacy
